Sazon Villa Taqueria approached me with a challenge: their brand identity had remained unchanged for years, while the culinary landscape and the expectations of modern diners had evolved significantly. Despite offering delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine, their visual identity no longer reflected the quality of their food or connected with a new generation of customers.
The business needed a comprehensive rebrand that would honor its cultural roots while positioning it for growth in a highly competitive food scene. The goal was to create a vibrant, contemporary identity system that would resonate with both loyal regulars and new guests seeking an elevated, flavorful dining experience.
Juan, born in Mexico City and raised in Puebla, moved to the USA at sixteen. Starting as a dishwasher, he worked his way up in the restaurant industry and gained experience with top NYC caterers before launching his own food truck to share authentic Mexican flavors.
Conducted market analysis, competitor research, and customer interviews to understand brand perception and identify opportunities.
Developed brand positioning strategy and explored multiple creative directions through sketching and concept development.
Refined the selected concept into a comprehensive visual identity with logo variations, typography, and color palette.
Extended the identity to various touchpoints including stationery, merchandise, digital assets, and retail materials.
The new logo combines a minimalist coffee bean icon with custom letterforms, creating a mark that is both distinctive and timeless. The logo system includes horizontal, vertical, and icon-only variations for different applications.
